Koen A.P.M. Lemmink is a professor in sports, performance and innovation and head of the department of Human Movement Sciences, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen, the Netherlands. He graduated as a teacher in Physical Education and obtained a master-degree in Human Movement Sciences and a PhD-degree in Medical Sciences.
Central theme of his research is performance optimisation in sports, especially in ball team sports like soccer, basketball, hockey, handball and volleyball. Research concerns analysis of performance in matches and small-sided games, monitoring load and recovery over time in relation to performance and prevention of illness and injuries. The theoretical background of his research is based on concepts of adaptation, stress recovery balance, dynamical systems and network theories.
He has a broad international network and cooperation with sport scientists and universities. He is regular speaker at international sport science conferences, reviewer of several international high-standard scientific journals and member of scientific committees of several sport science conferences. He published extensively in international high-standard scientific sport journals but also in the more practically oriented sport journals.
